The history of İstanbul Nişantaşı Üniversitesi begins in 2009, when the Nişantaşı Eğitim ve Kültür Vakfı (Nişantaşı Education and Culture Foundation) established a vocational school — the first step on the path to creating one of Turkey's most innovative private universities. In 2012, the institution received full university status and rapidly began expanding its academic base, opening new faculties and programs that meet the needs of the modern labor market. The university was originally located in the historic Osmanbey district — the prestigious heart of Istanbul's European side — giving students immediate access to the city's business, cultural and creative centers.
A turning point in the university's history was the opening of the NeoTech campus in the Maslak district — Turkey's first fully technology-driven university campus, also considered one of the largest indoor campuses in Europe. The total enclosed area of the NeoTech campus exceeds 106,000 square meters. It includes around 200 "smart" classrooms equipped with interactive panels and video-conferencing systems, 124 specialized laboratories for hands-on training in engineering, medicine, design and information technology, 8 simulation centers for medical and aviation programs, and 7 research centers working in biotechnology, artificial intelligence and digital media.
Today Nişantaşı University comprises 5 faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Art and Design. In addition, the university includes higher schools of applied sciences, physical education and sports, civil aviation and health sciences. The total number of programs exceeds 160: 54 bachelor's programs, 45 master's programs and more than 70 associate-degree programs. The university hosts around 30,000 students, more than 6,000 of them international from dozens of countries.
The university's international recognition is confirmed by the accreditation of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey (YÖK), as well as international accreditations including FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) for business administration programs. The university is an active participant in the Erasmus+ program with more than 300 partner universities in Europe, and also has direct exchange agreements with more than 85 institutions worldwide. Particular pride is taken in unique programs in civil aviation, including pilot training and air traffic control, as well as in strong programs in design, fashion and culinary arts, which makes Nişantaşı University a truly multidisciplinary educational center.
