Istanbul Beykent University was founded on 9 July 1997 by the Adem Çelik–Beykent Educational Foundation and began teaching in the 1997–1998 academic year. Over the following decades it grew into one of Istanbul's large private universities, with several campuses across the city: Ayazağa-Maslak (Sarıyer district), Beylikdüzü/Büyükçekmece, Taksim and Hadımköy. The university comprises eight faculties along with schools, institutes and research centres.

For Turkish-medium programmes, a Turkish proficiency certificate (usually B2; C1 for medicine and dentistry). Applicants without a language certificate may take a one-year preparatory course.
